About Me

Advocate for Sexual Health Literacy

Sexual health is not a fixed state of being and every person's needs will change throughout their life

Hi

I'm Jodi, the founder of The Bent Banana, home to my sex education business.  I started this business out of a desire to help parents navigate sex education with their children better.  However, as I began, I noticed a gap in many adults' understanding of their bodies, sexual health issues, and support for navigating relationship issues due to their sexual well-being.  Being an advocate for your sexual health is my passion.

What would she know?

I have a passion for helping others which saw me study nursing early on and specialise as an Intensive Care Nurse for many years.  At the same time, I was interested in how healthcare would change in the digital era, so I pursued an Information Technology degree and worked for many years in the IT space of healthcare.

My interest and career path in Sexual Health Education arose due to my work with young adults who found me easy to ask for advice regarding relationships, sexuality, how-to questions regarding sex, sexual health issues, anatomy questions, many "am I normal" style questions regarding their bodies, interests, thoughts etc.  With that in mind, I completed a Master's Degree in Sexual and Reproductive Health, specifically within the public health pathway.

There is a lot of information on the internet regarding sexual health, and it is hard to determine what is factually correct, what is "someone trying to sell you something", and what is incorrect.  My approach as an advocate for sexual health literacy is to explain the "why" of something and leave it up to you to decide what you do with the information, as ultimately, my job is to empower you with the right information for you to make the best decision regarding your sexual health.
